PREFACE
This book is a reference manual for the OWL Personal Portfolio
Manager. As the name implies, the system is intended primarily as a
tool to assist individual investors in tracking, managing, and
analyzing their personal investments and finances. It is ideally
suited for small to moderate investors who either own or have access
to a personal computer. The software features a menu driven user
interface which eliminates the need to learn commands or memorize
function keys. Extensive error checking within the system makes it
difficult to enter bad data.
The OWL Personal Portfolio Manager allows you to:
Maintain a permanent record of security transactions including
purchases, sales, and dividends received.
Maintain a permanent record of your other assets and liabilities
including bank accounts, home equity, loans due and payable,
etc.
Quickly rank your securities in terms of total annualized rate
of return inclusive of dividends.
Obtain printed or on-screen reports detailing security
transactions, dividend income, present value of portfolio
holdings, and net worth.
Plot price/volume graphs covering the last year with moving
averages.
Plot relative performance charts to see how well a security is
doing relative to the overall market or another security.
Perform statistical analysis of price performance relative to
market indexes and determine the degree to which changes in the
market index are predictive of changes in a security's price.
Maintain multiple portfolios for what-if analysis or separate
tracking of tax deferred/exempt accounts.
Because it is the intention that the OWL Personal Portfolio Manager
will provide you with many years of service, it has been designed as
tax neutral. With the exception of using a first-in-first-out
accounting method which may be overridden if necessary, no
assumptions have been made about tax reporting requirements. This
means that dividend and capital gains/losses reports can be tailored
by the user to reflect the laws currently in effect.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: IBM PC, XT, AT or true compatible with 256k
Memory, MS or PC DOS 2.1 or greater, one disk drive (hard disk or
dual floppy recommended), and graphics monitor/adapter (CGA, EGA,
VGA, Hercules Monochrome, or PC3270).
